The Puerto Rican Heritage Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is inviting the South Texas community to join in its Three Kings Day celebration, also known as Fiesta de los Tres Reyes Magos.

The celebration will take place on Sunday, January 5, 2025. It will run from noon to 4 p.m. at San Fernando Hall, located at 231 W. Commerce Street, San Antonio, TX 78205. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. El Coqui Restaurant, a Puerto Rican eatery located on San Antonio’s southwest side, will be on-site as a food vendor offering Puerto Rican food for purchase.

The celebration pays homage to the Epiphany, which commemorates the visit the Three Wise Men paid to Jesus Christ after his birth. In Puerto Rico, the holiday is traditionally observed with parades, gift giving, food, art and family gatherings. The night before the celebration, children also cut grass to place in boxes under their beds for the camels of the Three Wise Men — similar to how children leave milk and cookies out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

The Puerto Rican Heritage Society will honor these traditions by providing a re-enactment of the Three Wise Men visiting baby Jesus during the celebration, as well as photo opportunities with the Three Wise Men and live music. Children in attendance also have the opportunity to participate in the play re-enactment, as the non-profit will provide costumes on-site for those wanting to join in.

This year as a new aspect of the celebration, the non-profit will also host a bicycle raffle for one girl’s bicycle and one boy’s bicycle. Families can enter the raffle on-site during the event.
