SAN ANTONIO — The Puerto Rican Heritage Society, also known as Sociedad Herencia Puertorriqueña, was honored to partner with the San Antonio International Airport recently for an inaugural flight.

Airport officials invited the non-profit organization for a kickoff celebration for the first direct flight via Spirit Airlines from San Antonio, Texas to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The celebration took place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The celebration marked a historic event, as this is the first time the San Antonio International Airport offers non-stop service from the Alamo City to the Caribbean. The new non-stop service connects the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) with Luis Muñoz International Airport (SJU) with up to four flights weekly.

Liliana Mackenzie, the president of the Puerto Rican Heritage Society, and Alicia Silva, the scholarship chair of the Puerto Rican Heritage Society, spoke at the event about the non-profit and the cultural significance of this new service. Airport officials and Spirit Airlines leadership also spoke at the celebration.
